Recent Development
The Support and Austerity Package (“Package”) prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Technology (“Ministry”) for businessmen, small and medium sized enterprises (“SME”) and entrepreneurs was announced. The developments on intellectual property came into force under the Communiqué Pertaining to the Amendment of the Communiqué on the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Fee Tariff for 2018, which was published on the Official Gazette, dated September 5, 2018 and numbered 30526.
What’s New?
The Package reduced the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office’s application fees for trademarks, patents, utility models and designs by 25% and pardoned delay fines concerning intellectual property rights.
Conclusion
The discounts introduced under the Package aim to encourage the research and development activities, as well as protection of the intellectual property rights, of businessmen, SMEs and entrepreneurs. The discount and incentive are expected to increase the number of filings with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
