Recent Development
The Presidential Decrees dated April 20, 2020 and nos. 2429 and 2430 introduced additional but temporary customs duty rates for textile, garment, leather, shoes and similar products, as well as certain industrial products under the list no. II of the Import Regime Decree. The Presidential Decrees were published in the Official Gazette on April 21, 2020.
What’s New?
The import of textile, garment, leather, shoes and similar products listed under the Import Regime Decree will be subject to additional customs duty ranging between 8% and 35%. The relevant Presidential Decree is available online here (in Turkish).
The import of numerous industrial goods such as iron and steel products, and electronic goods will be subject to additional customs duty ranging between 2.3% and 45%. The relevant Presidential Decree is available online here (in Turkish).
The additional customs duty rates will be applicable until September 30, 2020. The Presidential Decree introduces an exception to the imposition of additional customs taxes if the relevant goods are ready for shipment and imported before a certain date. Accordingly, customs declaration regarding the import of goods should be registered within 30 days from the publication of the Decrees (April 21, 2020).

Turkey continues to take measures to protect the domestic textile and industrial sectors due to the current fluctuations in the global market. Accordingly, the Presidential Decrees impose temporary customs duties on the import of numerous goods.
