The amendments to the Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data, adopted by Law No. 7499 on the Amendments of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Certain Laws, were published in the Official Gazette numbered 32487 and dated March 12, 2024. The amendments, which aim to harmonize with European legislation, include provisions on the processing of sensitive personal data, cross-border transfer of personal data, administrative fines and the appeal authority; and the amendments are envisaged to enter into force on June 1, 2024. Data controllers are required to review their data processing and transfer processes in line with the amendments until the specified effective date.
