Recent Developments
The Regulation Regarding the Intellectual Property Academy (“Regulation“) was published and entered into force on November 14, 2019.
Drafted by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Regulation determines the working procedures and principles of the Intellectual Property Academy.
What’s New?
The Intellectual Property Academy is assigned and authorized to:
- organize training programs, internship programs, panels, conferences, symposiums, and congresses in the field of intellectual property;
- conduct field research;
- consult; and
- increase the professional knowledge and skills of public and private sector employees in the field of intellectual property at international standards.
The Intellectual Property Academy will benefit from the experience of the Supreme Court members; judges and prosecutors; academy members; lawyers; experts in the field of public, private sector and non-governmental organizations; and foreign experts.
Conclusion
Both the new regulations and recent application of international standard practices in the field of intellectual and industrial property law in Turkey garnered attention as positive developments.
In light of these legal changes, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture aim to increase the competence of service providers of Intellectual and Industrial Property Law, to provide them with support and to pioneer developments in this field by developing the Intellectual Property Academy.
